Flop Network holds Singapore launch during TOKEN2049; full Q&A video now posted
Flop Labs held its official Flop Network launch in Singapore on Oct 6 during TOKEN2049, with Arthur Hayes taking questions on validators and GPU mining. The two-part video went up Oct 12.
Flop Labs held the official launch event for Flop Network in Singapore on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, during TOKEN2049 week. On October 12 the team published the full session as a two-part video on X.
A 9am start, by design
The event was announced on Oct 3 as the "official launch event for Flop Network", with breakfast followed by Q&A with Arthur Hayes. A final reminder gave the time as 9am to noon SGT and said attendees needed to RSVP to get in.
Afterwards, Flop Labs wrote that Hayes "set it for 9am on a Tuesday of Token2049 week so only people serious about building would come." According to the team, the people who came "grilled us on validator specs and whether a gaming GPU can mine." Hayes thanked attendees and said the whole session would be posted online.
What builders asked about
The two topics Flop Labs highlighted are the two hardware questions behind the upcoming testnet:
- Validators. The published, provisional spec is an 8+ core CPU, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB NVMe and a 1 Gbps redundant link, with no GPU required. See our validator guide.
- Gaming GPUs. The official recommendation is a GPU with 16 GB+ VRAM per unit. Confidential-computing hardware is optional. See how to mine FLOP.
The launch post goes on to summarise what the team told the room, starting with "Testnet opens late Oct or…". The rest is cut off in the post text we could retrieve, so we aren't reporting the remainder. The official testnet page still says Q4 2026.
The OKX mainstage talk
Hayes also spoke on the OKX mainstage at TOKEN2049 Singapore. Flop Labs' summary said he asked what an AI agent should be paid in, and argued that dollars, USDT, BTC and AI tokens are "human money wearing an agent's mask". The argument is that an agent "eats compute", and $FLOP is redeemable for inference.
The video: two parts
- Part 1: Hayes on why he built Flop. In the team's words, ChatGPT gave the world "a new economic life form in 2022, and it still has no money of its own."
- Part 2: "An hour of @CryptoHayes taking questions from the room. Nothing was off limits."
Why it matters
The launch puts the project into its go-to-market phase. The next milestone is the testnet, which the official documents call the only route to the genesis airdrop. We'll update our testnet tracker when onboarding opens.
