'Do the work': Flop Labs says FLOP follows Bitcoin's distribution rule
Flop Labs says $FLOP follows Bitcoin's rule of entry: do the work or buy from someone who did. Here's how that maps onto the no-presale, no-VC genesis allocation.
In a September 30 post summarising Arthur Hayes' appearance with CryptoWendyO, Flop Labs said most crypto projects "use their token wrong, and that includes most of the ones he advises."
The Bitcoin rule
"Bitcoin got it right. The only way in was to do the work, or buy from someone who did," the team wrote. "Flop Network runs on the same rule: run GPUs or put your agent to work."
How the rule shows up in the documents
The official documents back this up in several places:
- No sale. The homepage says "No pre-sale", "No VCs" and "100% fair launch". The whitepaper says "there is no token sale and no investor allocation."
- Earned genesis. The 4.4bn FLOP genesis allocation is the testnet airdrop (1.2bn each for miners, agents and validators) plus an 800M ecosystem reserve. All of it is earned through verified work or reserved for growth programmes (airdrop page).
- Issued in public. "Every token after genesis is issued block by block, in public." Miners receive 48.6% of year-10 supply through block rewards, according to the whitepaper.
- Work-linked unlocks. A miner's locked airdrop unlocks one FLOP for every FLOP of inference fees it earns. An agent's locked airdrop can only be spent on inference.
The team's share
The project does have an insider allocation. Flop Labs and the Flop Foundation each mint 8 FLOP per block on top of the block reward. That halves on the same schedule and ends after year ten, adding up to 2.0bn FLOP (10.8% of year-10 supply) in total. It's issued over time rather than pre-minted.
Why readers should care
If there's no presale, then anyone offering you FLOP before genesis isn't selling an official token. Our scam guide covers this. If you want an allocation, the airdrop guide explains what work counts.
